Our convictions

Our convictions

More and more interoperability

Organize a ride, be informed about time schedules, find a self-service bicycle station or, finally, buy a ticket that covers a complete itinerary are actions that are technically fully possible. However, this is not always feasible, mainly due to scopes of responsibility that are fragmented among the mobility stakeholders.

Our conviction : People need to travel without any consideration for administrative frameworks. It is necessary to promote as much as possible initiatives that enable interoperability and information sharing among the mobility networks : public transport but also micro and shared mobilities such as, for instance, carsharing, carpooling, self-service bicycles and scooters.

Increase of the rail offering volume

In several countries (and starting from end 2023 in France), for the subsidized rail service, Authorities must issue requests for proposals (RFP) to renew contracts with the awarded operators: this means no monopoly anymore of the national operator.

Regional authorities therefore take the opportunity offered by the opening to competition to negotiate better contracts: more frequency, wider time schedule range, without increasing their budget.

Our conviction : whatever the operators selected at the end of RFP processes, Authorities and operators will be able to obtain expected results, in terms of quantity and quality of service, with a tight preparation of necessary changes, that will have substantial human, technical and operational impacts.

Increase of the operating costs

After a substantial decrease of travelers during the COVID 2019 pandemic and while the pre 2019 situation has not recovered everywhere yet, operators have been facing a brutal increase of their operating costs, starting with energy. Since operators and Authorities cannot transfer these costs to the ticket prices, not only do they have to find additional subsidies from Administrations but also find new sources of cost savings.

Our conviction : by optimizing their IT infrastructure cost and by digitalizing their business processes, mobility operators can obtain important cost savings and, thus, partly compensate the increase of their production costs.

Towards more affordable prices for travelers ?

In Germany, the “9 Euro ticket” promotion conducted during the 2022 summer appeared to be successful. This experiment, decided and funded by the federal government, made it possible to ride, with no limit on all rail and public transport networks, within the whole country (with the exclusion of national and high speed trains), for a 9 Euros monthly subscription. Besides a financial help, in an inflation context, the objective was to encourage citizens to reduce the usage of their cars and increase public transport utilization, to reduce the CO2 emissions. As a result, 52 million tickets were sold over the 3 months period and, according to VDV (federal association of the German public transport), 1,8 million of tons of CO2 were saved.

Based on this success, the German federal government decided to perpetuate this principle with the creation of the “Deutschland Ticket”, ie the ability to travel on any public transport network in the country for 49 Euros per month (still excluding national rail lines and high speed trains). In spite of numerous technical and financial constraints, this ambition became reality on May 1st 2023. In terms of sales, this is already a proven success.

Our conviction : conscious that their citizens are highly concerned about the environment, Authorities are considering different ways of encouraging usage of public transport and all environment-friendly means of transport. Financial incentives are part of the levers already implemented by many Authorities, sometimes even with totally free public transport facilities. This trend will necessarily have an impact on fare models and distribution systems.
