After interviewing representatives from French regions as well as from the French Ministry in charge of transport, Metrolys presented the conclusions of the “Interop Regions” study to all stakeholders on July 4.
As planned, Metrolys presented the state of the art of regional ticketing and MaaS systems, covering functionalities delivered for the sale of regional trains (TER) tickets, regional coach services, and TET (National trains).
The study results include both the functionalities currently in place and those planned within the next five years.
Beyond the functionalities themselves, the study highlighted the strategies chosen by the regions for transforming their ticketing systems, particularly with respect to the sale of regional train tickets: some plan to develop and implement their own systems, others intend to continue with the incumbent historical operator, and some have not yet defined their strategy.
The study also revealed that the timelines for the liberalization of rail service lots may not align with the schedules for ticketing system evolutions.
Finally, the study pointed out the need to address several workstreams to ensure continuity in the sale of interregional tickets, enabling passengers to travel seamlessly from one region to another. The prioritization of these workstreams and their implementation timeline must soon be decided by the competent stakeholders.
